Documenting Abuse Without Going Out Of Our Way

Another photo taken of illegal parking. Posted to the web. Someone wondered why I had such a beef, why I was on such a "mission". The answer is simple, really: We have to document the chronic abuse of disability parking spaces. Too many people are under the impression that it doesn't happen.

Some might think I go out of my way to find disability parking abuse. They would be wrong. I only go about my day-to-day chores, and when I find cars illegally parked, I photograph them. Sure, I *look*, but I don't go out of my way.

I'd say that on average, I find one or more illegally parked car on over half of the time I go out to the shops. That isn't insignificant.

Talking about it is one thing. And then, people quickly lose interest. They are amazed when I first say that, then they disbelieve. "Surely", they think, "people aren't that crass?". Without taking photos, without documenting, there is no way to support it.

We have to document such abuse. Until we do, until we have a "paper trail" showing the chronic abuse, people will continue to think that we are blowing things out of proportion. It is outside most people's paradigm to realise that people do abuse mobility parking spaces, repeatedly. The "evidence" gathered here may help changing paradigms, and creating greater awareness. Without even having to go out of our way to find cars parked where they shouldn't be.

The taxi company was contacted and their general manager is going to look into it. He said: "If you have any additional information on the date and time of this incident I would welcome the receipt of that so we can identify the driver concerned at the time and address the matter with them directly.

I may not buy more in one go, but I guarantee you I spend as much, if not more, than the average punter does in a week.
