Poster's note: I was walking to my car with my disabled son and I saw this Kia Sedona pull into the next disabled bay. As I was getting my son out of his wheelchair, I watched the young parents get out of the car, the mother proceeded to get a buggy out of the boot. The father was unbelting the children, one of whom was a baby. I saw no blue placard in the windscreen. Obviously, they thought they were entitled to park there. I considered saying something but the man looked a bit rough.

Unfortunetly, carparks such as that arent governed by traffic wardens or the council. As far as ive heard tesco go, a disabled person is allowed to park in a child and mother space if there is no other room, and vice versa.
Dont know about matalan though, but i expect its their private carpark.

I'm not 100% sure, but I suspect that the situation in the UK is much the same as in NZ. Police/Council officer aren't allowed to issue parking citations on "private" land such as supermarket's parking lots. Yet, it is the responsibility of the parking lot owner to manage and monitor the lot and ensure that people don't abuse the parking spaces.

Spaces for pregnant mothers are not, AFAIK, included under any laws, but are simply a nice PR exercise on the part of the business. I have a feeling that "mother spaces" are generally better respected than disability parking spaces.

The taxi company was contacted and their general manager is going to look into it. He said: "If you have any additional information on the date and time of this incident I would welcome the receipt of that so we can identify the driver concerned at the time and address the matter with them directly.

I may not buy more in one go, but I guarantee you I spend as much, if not more, than the average punter does in a week.
