A "Hall of Shame" to expose cars parked illegally
in disability or mobility parking spaces.
We have recently received a note from one of our contributors who explained that he hadn't sent any photos lately because he didn't have any to send. It appears that he has become an unofficial parking warden and people recognise him. They put their placard up, or veer away and go park somewhere else.
Bryan Melville of Hamilton, NZ reports that he took a number of photos of vehicles that weren't displaying their parking placard, but soon after their vehicle owners returned and sheepishly pulled out parking placards from glove boxes or other storage space. He didn't send those photos, which we feel is appropriate. He continues:
And half an hour ago I was walking from my car to the shop - no camera - as a guy was turning into the disabilty park. He saw me, recognised me, grinned and changed direction. You'd recognise him - you have his [vehicle's] photo that I sent.
Maybe this is the best outcome of all. I'm happy with it.
Another contributor, also from New Zealand, but in Palmerston North, reports that following a couple of newspaper articles in the last two weeks, there has been a marked decrease in mobility parking abuse in known "hot spots"
This tells us that our efforts are in fact working. Or that something is working. It doesn't really matter what, as long as it is working! The question is, will this stand the test of time?

The taxi company was contacted and their general manager is going to look into it. He said:
"If you have any additional information on the date and time of this incident I would welcome the receipt of that so we can identify the driver concerned at the time and address the matter with them directly.

I may not buy more in one go, but I guarantee you I spend as much, if not more, than the average punter does in a week.
