A "Hall of Shame" to expose cars parked illegally
in disability or mobility parking spaces.
It isn't technically illegal, but it doesn't seem appropriate for someone that doesn't have a mobility impairment to park in an accessible space while they have someone in the car with them that is a genuine mobility placard owner, if that person is staying in the car. It is amazing the number of time you see it happen. There's the driver, the passenger and in the back of the car, a walker, or a wheelchair. The driver parks in the mobility parking space, the passenger pulls out their parking permit, displays it on the dash of the car, and the driver gets out and saunters off to the store, with a spring in their step.
Admitedly the driver may also have a disability, and have a genuine need to use the space. One may also argue that the passenger will be getting out of the car in a short while. I acknowledge those possibilities. But by and far it appears that the driver is just using their passenger, and their parking placard, as a convenient way to use the parking space.
As some say in the States, "Man, this ain't right".
Disability parking permit holders condoning such abuse should know better. It's not supposed to be a convenience for whomever is driving the car they are in. It's to allow the parking permit holder to get in and out of the car, near the entrance. Staying in the car while a son, wife, or friend goes shopping isn't the right use of the parking placard.
But perhaps it's a good service for Grams, or Granpa, take them out shopping, so they aren't stuck at home all day. "Air them out" a bit. Only they stay in the fish-bowl of the car, because it is in fact too much trouble to have them actually come out of the car, and go shopping. One with a wicked mind could easily imagine how an unemployed or retired mobility parking placard owner might make a bit of an income on the side:
"Rent me, and my parking placard, use those ultra-convenient parking spaces near the door. For a small fee, I will travel with you in your car and you will be able to use the parking permit.".
Geee, a killing is to be made at Christmas time, or when it rains. What a scheme!

The taxi company was contacted and their general manager is going to look into it. He said:
"If you have any additional information on the date and time of this incident I would welcome the receipt of that so we can identify the driver concerned at the time and address the matter with them directly.

I may not buy more in one go, but I guarantee you I spend as much, if not more, than the average punter does in a week.
