A "Hall of Shame" to expose cars parked illegally
in disability or mobility parking spaces.
The state of New Mexico in the United States recently changed their laws about accessible parking infractions. This is good news for people with disabilities. Offenders now have to appear in court on top of paying higher fines.
The introduction of the article Disabled-parking citation comes with court date on Free New Mexican online publication says:
The news for people who illegally park in spots for the disabled just got worse. Besides paying increased fines, violators must also go to court.
"There's a mandatory court appearance within 15 days," said Bill Hon, interim director of parking for Santa Fe. Violators have 15 days to appear in court or the fine doubles. The new state law, which went into effect May 17, raises fines for illegally parking in a spot for the disabled to $250-$500, instead of $100-$300.
This is good stuff. It's not just money anymore, but an actual inconvenience on top of it. Let's face it, for some people, paying a fine doesn't make such an impact. But having to go to court, that should make them sit up and pay attention.
It would be interesting to see how much of an impact this law change actually makes, say, in a year or two.

The taxi company was contacted and their general manager is going to look into it. He said:
"If you have any additional information on the date and time of this incident I would welcome the receipt of that so we can identify the driver concerned at the time and address the matter with them directly.

I may not buy more in one go, but I guarantee you I spend as much, if not more, than the average punter does in a week.
